The ExpandED Schools Volunteer Program turns 1!

Erin Phillips

Erin Phillips is a Development Officer at ExpandED Schools.

Judging debate tournaments, building stage sets, writing letters to high schoolers, reading with elementary-aged kids, doing arts and crafts, coaching budding entrepreneurs, creating picture books and answering middle schoolers’ burning technological questions … as we celebrate the first anniversary of the ExpandED Schools Volunteer Program, let’s take a look back at all we accomplished in just one year!

  • 91 people volunteered since last June, including five junior board members and three staff members.

  • We offered 11 volunteer opportunities, totaling 46 service hours.

  • 13 schools hosted volunteer events.

  • Three specialized group events for Deloitte and AOL reached 52 volunteers.

  • Nine volunteers served as business coaches in our Market Makers program, an entrepreneur-based financial literacy initiative.

  • We reached over 400 students.

As you can see, we’ve been busy! A big shout out to our Junior Board who came up with the idea to create opportunities where young professionals can connect with students throughout New York City in meaningful ways.

Look for new volunteer opportunities in the 2017-18 school year, starting in August. Learn more and register here, or contact Erin Phillips at volunteer@expandedschools.org
