New Ways to Get Involved with ExpandED Schools | Volunteer Opportunities

Erin Phillips

Erin Phillips is a Development Officer at ExpandED Schools.

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." -Anne Frank

I get it; you’re busy, I’m busy, we’re all busy. With balancing work and other commitments, it’s easy to think we don’t have the time to give back to the community. But ExpandED Schools has just made it easier for you to make an impact with the launch of its new volunteer program.

Whether debate is your thing or you’re passionate about books, we’ve got a wide range of opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved.

There are many ways to volunteer your time and talents. Opportunities include:

  • Market Makers – act as a business coach in our Market Makers clubs, an entrepreneur-based financial literacy program for students in underserved schools and communities.
    • Starts September 10th
  • Outdoor Beautification – paint and clean the areas surrounding a school; artistic volunteers requested, if possible, to paint a mural.
    • October 1st
  • Debate Tournament – judge students in the competition.
    • November 19th

It’s a win-win situation. Kids and schools gain from your efforts and you benefit by:

  • Increasing your knowledge of New York City schools
  • Showcasing your enthusiasm, knowledge, talents and skills
  • Receiving invitations to special events
  • Making a difference in your community
  • Connecting with students from diverse backgrounds and working toward a common goal

As Rickie Lee Jones said, “you never know when you're making a memory.” It all starts with one person and that person could be you.
