What Are You Doing on Leap Day?

Deb Levy

Deb Levy is Director of Communications & Marketing at ExpandED Schools.

It’s an ExpandED Year! Celebrate Leap Day 2016 by making the most of extra time … and making a difference for kids in need.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with five organizations throughout New York City who are hosting classes or events on Leap Day to support our mission of closing the learning gap. The below businesses will be donating a portion of the proceeds from their Leap Day classes to ExpandED Schools.

So check them out and show your support. Great fun, great learning … for a great cause.

  • Brooklyn Brainery hosts casual classes for curious adults about all sorts of things. Learn about Mesopotamia on Leap Day from a museum educator and “lifelong history/mythology/fantasy nerd.”

  • The Design Gym empowers people with the tools to create change. Learn about design thinking and then sign up for their crash course being held a week later.

  • Fit 4 Dance is dedicated to bringing quality and affordable dance and fitness instruction to women and children in Brooklyn. Try a zumba or qoya class on February 29th!

  • Harlem Yoga Studio is dedicated to making yoga accessible and affordable to every “body” in Harlem. There are six classes on Leap Day to choose from, including one for kids after school.

  • Pura Vida Urban Fitness provides fun and effective fitness classes for all fitness levels. They also have six classes on Leap Day ranging from an indoor bootcamp to pilates, zumba to kickboxing.

We’ve also created a Bonus Day Bucket List with 100 ways you can take advantage of the extra 24 hours in this year. Suggestions include: visit a museum, buy a plant, write a letter to the editor or jump on a trampoline. There’s something for everyone. (Click here to see the full list.)

Be sure to let us know how you’ll be making the most of extra time. Print out this #unselfie template and write or draw what you’re doing on Leap Day, then share it on your social media! Be sure to use these hashtags: #ExpandEDyear #LeapDay2016
