SUMMARY:Pathways Fellowship Information Session #4
DESCRIPTION:About the Pathways Fellowship: \nAn initiative of ExpandED Schools\, the Pathways Fellowship is a ten-month program designed to provide people of color\, who are currently enrolled in or recently graduated college\, with an enriching experience that offers: professional development workshops\, an after-school practicum\, early career support\, mentorship\, and networking opportunities. \nProgram Benefits \nEarly Career Training and Support \nAs a program participant\, you will have the opportunity to receive training in instructional and classroom management techniques which lead to applying those skills in your after-school practicum. Apart from the after-school practicum\, you will receive career advisement to support your successful placement in a traditional certification program\, alternative certification program or teaching residency. \nMentorship \nAll fellows are partnered with a trained mentor teacher based on a reflective matching protocol that considers the needs and aspirations of the fellow. Mentors support the development of new teacher effectiveness\, build teacher leadership\, increase student learning\, support equitable outcomes for every learner\, and support the fellows as they develop their teacher identity. \nPaid After-School Practicum \nThrough partnerships with community-based organizations\, program participants will be placed at after-school programs in one of the five boroughs. In addition\, participants can earn at least $16 per hour (based on their experience and the role) while they complete the after-school practicum at their respective field placement sites. \nNetworking Opportunities \nPathways Fellows will have the opportunity to network with educators\, school leaders\, recruitment officers\, and other education-related professionals to get an in-depth understanding of the teaching profession. \nProgram Entry Requirements \nTo be considered you must: \n• Be enrolled at a CUNY school or a college/university in New York City. \n• Be a senior (graduate in the spring of 2024) or a junior (graduate in the spring of 2025). \n• Be committed to joining the New York City teaching workforce \n• Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (special consideration may be given if lower than 3.0 ) \n• Be able to satisfy pre-employment screening\, including employment eligibility verification and background checks by related agencies\, such as the New York City Department of Education and Department of Health \n*If you have recently graduated within the past 3 years with a bachelor’s degree\, you are also eligible to apply for the Pathways Fellowship. \nTime Commitment \nAs a participant\, you will be required to: \n• Actively participate and contribute to the Fellowship from August 2023 to June 2024 \n• Attend monthly professional development workshops at ExpandED Schools \n• Participate in a paid afterschool practicum from Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm \n• Meet with your assigned mentor at least three hours per month \nAbout ExpandED Schools Since 1998\, ExpandED Schools\, founded as The After-School Corporation\, has been dedicated to closing the learning gap by increasing access to enriched educational experiences.
