SUMMARY:MS ExTRA Literacy Educators PD: Session 5-Red Herring and Rabbit Holes
DESCRIPTION:Facilitators: Noel Morales and Tiffany Perry \nThe red herring device is especially common in mysteries\, thrillers\, and detective stories\, where writers want to keep their readers guessing until the very end. In this workshop\, participants will identify where in the text red herrings/rabbit holes exist.  In addition\, we will look at how vocabulary/sentence structure provides the reader with an emotional connection. Lastly\, we will explore how to motivate students to attain comprehension.\n\nEducators will be able to identify what distracts our reader’s attention from the real issue. They will also be able to lead discussions referring to bizarre\, confusing\, or nonsensical situations or environments\, within a novel which one might find difficult to extricate.
