SUMMARY:MS ExTRA Literacy Educators PD Session 1: Understanding How Strong Characters are Developed Throughout the Novel
DESCRIPTION:  \nFacilitators: Alex De La Cruz and Tiffany Perry  \nIn this workshop\, we will examine the different characters from the mystery genre and the diverse character traits that make each role vital to the book. In a successful mystery\, the author must create characters that are so vivid and realistic that readers feel they know them as well as they know their own relatives. A mystery novel requires a main character as  the detective or sleuth and a cast of other characters who interact with the detective and help or hinder him or her in solving the crime. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.6.3 \nEducators will walk away with an understanding of the roles characters play in a suspense novel. They will also be able to explain how the characters’ actions drive their decisions based on the pathways created by the plot built into the author’s narrative.   \n
