Date Added:

May 3, 2012
Global Learning and Expanded Learning Opportunities

This brief by the New York State Afterschool Network argues that high-quality global learning in after-school programs and Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELOs) is critical to youth success, and suggests how global learning supports student achievement.

The brief also features exemplars in New York State and presents the following policy recommendations to make global learning more accessible:

  • Funding for ELOs should encourage globally focused programming.
  • Create infrastructure and systems to link individuals and organizations with expertise in global learning with ELOs.
  • Help schools and ELOs understand how global learning aligns with and supports their practice.
  • Invest in capacity building strategies for ELOs to infuse and/or build globally-focused programs.
