Learning Beyond Classroom Walls
Through our ExpandED Options by initiative, New York City high school students can get academic credit for learning career-related skills that lead to paid summer jobs.
After school and on weekends, students (age 16 and over) apprentice during the spring semester with sports, cultural and science organizations that teach skills such as how to lead engineering activities. With teacher oversight, students earn an academic credit for real-world, out-of-school learning. ExpandED Options participants, by contrast, get a foothold on careers by working as paid summer camp interns.
ExpandED Options is funded by:
- Fund for Public Schools
- New York City Council
- New York City Department of Education
- New York City Department of Youth and Community Development
- and generous support from The Pinkerton Foundation
