The Heart of the Story: Exploring Conflict with Lit C.R.E.W.

ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND

Literacy Educators & Educator Coordinators

DESCRIPTION

Join us on April 8th in person at the ExpandED Schools Office,  218 W. 40th Street, 12th Floor. New York, NY 10018, from 9:00 am -12:00 pm for a dynamic work session focused on conflict

Conflict is what drives a story forward. Whether internal (a character’s struggle within) or external (a clash with others or the world), conflict creates tension and resolution. Students who grasp conflict learn to see stakes in stories and create their own with purpose.

This session will explore:

  • Vocabulary terms that describe types of conflict.
  • Building Background Knowledge examining classic and contemporary examples of conflict in literature and media.
  • Skill Building activities to help students identify, analyze, and develop meaningful conflicts in reading and writing.

Together, this PD series builds a strong toolkit for literacy educators, moving from literary elements to hands-on strategies that deepen comprehension and spark creativity.

Please note: Registration will close on Thursday, April 2nd . All attendees must register.
