“Characters in Action: Bringing Stories to Life with Lit C.R.E.W.”

ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND

Literacy Educators & Educator Coordinators

DESCRIPTION

Join us on October 15th in person at the ExpandED Schools Office,  218 W. 40th Street, 12th Floor. New York, NY 10018, from 9:00 am -12:00 pm for a dynamic work session focused on Characterization, the way authors create and develop characters to make stories come alive. Characterization isn’t just about what a character does—it’s about their thoughts, feelings, motivations, and the choices that reveal who they truly are. When students understand this, they can better analyze texts and create their own meaningful stories.

This session will highlight:

  • Vocabulary Development – building the descriptive language students need to capture personalities and traits.
  • Building Background Knowledge – helping students connect characters to culture, history, and context.
  • Skill Building – hands-on strategies for analyzing characters in texts and guiding students to craft believable, relatable characters in their own writing.

Educators will leave with ready-to-use activities that spark engagement and deepen students’ understanding of how characters drive stories forward.

Please note: Registration will close on Thursday, October 9th. All attendees must register.
