ExpandED’s Statement on Racial Injustice and Protests

June 3, 2020

ExpandED Schools stands with the Black community and the protesters in opposing racial injustice in all of its manifestations.

We denounce the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade – just four of the many individuals whose lives have been ruthlessly taken. We call on the authorities to bring each of the perpetrators to justice and to look inward in order to reimagine unjust systems.

We grieve with the communities we serve.

We stand in solidarity with our afterschool partners and their educators, most of whom are young Black and Brown adults working locally in their communities to support children. We know that you bear multiple burdens of having to survive within racist systems, navigate your own grief and anger, and help young people make sense of a broken world.

We support you and we are here.

Black and Brown children deserve to live free from the threat of violence and hate. We will continue to fight for a world that affirms their brilliance and beauty, cultivates their talents, inspires their curiosity, nurtures them emotionally, and unlocks their potential.
